The talented steps of Lucía Ruibal in Teatro Flamenco Málaga

Flamenco is my day job, my day-to-day, but it is also the highlight of my day, my daily reward. I think it is a little like learning everyday and starting afresh.

Lucía Ruibal is an outstanding flamenco dancer, the art form that captivates with its emotional strength and deep expression. With her innate talent and a career that blends traditional and contemporary flamenco, Lucía has become a reference in the world of modern flamenco. Teatro Flamenco Málaga is honoured to have her perform in the flamenco show, Esencia, the most popular, daily, live flamenco show in Málaga.

From traditional flamenco to innovative contemporary flamenco

Lucía Ruibal showed an interest in dance from the tender age of four beginning her training in classical dance in El Puerto de Santa María (Cadiz) her hometown. Her passion for dance took her to the professional dance conservatory in Cádiz, where she successfully completed her diploma in classic and contemporary dance. At 17, with the help of Natalia Acosta, her mentor, she decided to explore flamenco, a decision that would have a significant impact on her dance career. Over time, she trained with renowned flamenco dancers such as La Lupi and Mercedes Ruiz, who became her guides while she finished her higher education in flamenco dance at the Málaga Dance Conservatory, specialising in choreography. Her training continued to be enriched with the guiding hand of renowned artists such as Yolanda Heredia, Alfonso Losa, Belen López and David Paniagua, amongst others.

Innovation and flamenco fusion

In flamenco, where tradition and innovation blend together, Lucía Ruibal stands out for her ability to fuse together classical flamenco elements with contemporary influences. She is known for her versatility and ability to perform a variety of flamenco styles from the soleá or bulerías to alegrías, amongst other things.

Her energetic performance and her commitment to the authenticity of flamenco dance has led her to explore new territories, attracting both purists and new audiences.

Lucía Ruibal has been a fundamental component of prestigious flamenco dance companies such as that of Mercedes Ruiz in the flamenco shows “Juncá” and “Tauromagia”, and Juan de Juan in “Los Sones Negros,” (The Black Sounds). She has also collaborated with the Carlos Saura company in the flamenco show, “Flamenco Hoy” and with Rafael Amargo in “Dionisio. La Vid… y mil noches.” (Dionisio. The Vine… And A Thousand Nights). She also shares the stage with her family in the musical show “Casa Rubial”. Her father is the well-known singer-songwriter, Javier Ruibal, and her older brother, Javi, is an outstanding percussionist.

Lucía Ruibal has captivated national and international audiences with her flamenco dance prowess. In 2016 she won first prize in the fourth edition of the prestigious flamenco contest Tablao Villarosa, IV Concurso Tablao Villarosa, for her outstanding skill and passion on stage.

Lucía Ruibal’s flamenco legacy

This young girl from Cádiz is the essence of flamenco: passion, strength and emotion. Her artistic career and her commitment to the renovation of flamenco positions her as one of the best flamenco dancers in contemporary flamenco. Whether you are a fan of traditional flamenco dance or you prefer the new trends of modern flamenco, enjoying a performance from Lucía Ruibal is like being submerged in the intensity of this thousand-year-old art form.
